You would not believe my day yesterday. I was so stressed I just went to bed last night. To start the day off, Jimmy woke me at 5:30am to tell me he was going for a run, not really something I care to hear. Especially at 5:30AM! I am so NOT a morning person. Never have been, don't plan to see that change.
Just after eating breakfast, the younger 3 thought it would be a nice gesture to go see if the boys (7yo &4yo) in the apartment block next to us wanted to play together. BUT, they forgot to ask Me (who by the way was still in my PJs). I called their attention back over to our apt and explained that I had to run and errand (and get dressed) before company could come over to play. I explained that they would need to explain to the boys Mom that they didn't have permission to ask them to play. Just frustrating that they think they can leave whenever they want and not even ask. Not the rule here, just so you know. Just a temporary lapse in judgement on their part.
Next, we head to the library to return DVDs and books that we were supposed to return on Monday at a book club but Abigail was on the couch sick. Then Tuesday they were closed for Veterans day. Thankfully there were no late charges on that. But, the lady in the library wasn't there and I had to specifically return books to her b/c they were checked out thru the book club not to me personally. I waited an hour and half and she never returned, so we browsed the library and movie selection and decided I would just leave her a note and head home. We met her in the parking lot as we were leaving!
Next we returned home, and the kids went to play. I needed to prepare something for lunch, so I started working on that when Kirk came in from playing. He brought the two friends with him and announced they were hungry. I told him he needed to go play, I would call him in when I was ready for him to eat.
The boys Mom came over and we talked a bit and the kids wrote on the sidewalk with chalk, then they went home to eat and nap, and we came in to eat.
After lunch, they all went back out to play and my youngest dissapeared on a trip I made inside to check on something. I came back out and she was gone, so we split up to go find her and she was in the next apartment block upstairs, knocking on the boys door to ask them to play. Thankfully it was nap time and they couldn't come out to play. So after corrective measures so that didn't happen again, she went back out to play.
Later on in the day, Molly and the two little ones dissapeared. I couldn't find them at first but after walking around a bit, I spotted the two younger ones (keeping a watch out for Momma). I knew something was up, so I went to investigate what Molly was up to. She was 2 apartment blocks down from us behind them in a brush area, wathcing some sort of animal.
Then it was time to review verses for AWANA, so we did that and off we set to get ready for church, Kirk can't find his other shoe (it wasn't in the living room floor). Rebecca can't find her other flip flop (which was in the vehicle from yesterday's mall fiasco). So I had to find her other tennis shoe too. Just to clarify - for all you pious people who are saying - you/they should keep up with their things better ;>P walk a day in my shoes with this bunch and you will be thankful to remember where you put your OWN shoes!
Just so you know the mall things from yesterday.....I was going to Michaels' b/c they had plain colored Tshirts on sale 5/$10, so I was going to get everyone 2 of them. Rebecca said "My shoes are in the vehicle." So off we go to the vehicle and head to the mall. Everyone gets out and Rebecca can't find the other flip flop, she said was in the vehicle, so Tshirts are out and we head back home.
Since Kirk and Rebecca were ready and waiting on dinner they didn't have anything else to do, so they thought they would play war in their bedroom hall with PLAYDOH balls! They had pillows as shields and were flinging playdoh balls at each other across the room! Who would have thunk up that'en! Only my Kirk and Rebecca!
I had already planned to have Jimmy take the kids to AWANA, b/c he said it meant more to them for him to be there than to be working on something else on Wednesday. So he calls and tells Abigail that instead he is going to go work on another project for a friend tonight after church, which means I will need to bring home the kids, which means I have to go tonight after all. Since he is on his way home, I start supper.
So I came in to prepare that and we were having salmon patties and fries. I have limited cooking supplies and pans here. Of course the one I needed was in the dishwasher, so I used the next best one....the griddle, not great for frying something in a little oil, but it was better than nothing. I tried diligently to keep it from running over and thought I did well, until the flames came up from the burner!!! I could not believe what was happening after all I had tackled today....now this. I quickly turned off the burner and kids were screaming and I was blowing out the minor 6 inch flame each time it would flare up. I was hoping that it would eventually die out after the heat source was gone......thankfully I was right for once today. I could see me setting the apartment on fire, since I had explained to the children reasons that the apartment down the road had burned since we have been here. One of those reasons being irresponsibility in the kitchen! Just wasn't as funny yesterday :o) After about 15 flare ups, it was out and I was stressed. Of course, Jimmy walked in about 30 seconds after it happened and wanted to know why I didn't want to talk about it! LOL!
I got all of them fed, Jimmy took the children to AWANA and I stayed home with the intent on going to pick them up after church so he could leave and go tackle his project. I ate after they left and watched TV while I ate (not something we do). Just relaxing and as I like to call it "nothining". I cleaned up the apartment, moved a bed and dresser around to work better for me and just enjoyed some quiet and the fact that I didn't need to be responsible for anyone but myself. YEAH!
After 2 hours of down time, I went to pick up the kids with a smile again on my face.
Anna thought I was putting on a happy face at church and tried to push every bit of kindness out the door with her attitude, not to mention the pinching and fighting in the vehicle with Molly. That was a battle.
Abigail felt sick again and thought she was going to barf....not a pleasant thought even on a great day here, but I tried to help her and after she took some ginger and soaked in a shower/bath, she was better and ready for bed.
Then when everyone was quietly and safely in bed and asleep, I went to straighten up my bed b/c kids had been laying on it all day and the covers were a bit ruffled around. I flipped over my pillow and a gecko ran over the edge of my pillow! EEEUUUWWW! I am not a "running animal" chaser, so my animal handler Molly was awakened, caught it, set it outside and went back off to bed. Now, I am paranoid and can't go to sleep without feeling like geckos are all in my bed!
I finally went to sleep after 1am and was back up at 6am to a beeping bread machine......sandwich bread for today was ready. Great get up and go again!
Today I can laugh at all this stuff and know that God was smiling as I failed yet again. Today is a new day! Great to have a fresh start every day! His mercies are new every morning, don'tcha think He meant that for Moms (haha)! PTL!
Needless to say today, so that my country children are not the next abduction picture circulating, I am off to see if I can find a house out in the country (til possibly February). They can play outside in a yard with a fence or trees to climb, so that they can expend some energy productively instead of doing stuff without consulting with their BRAIN!
Hope you can smile at my failure yesterday and know that I am NOT complaining, just sharing in the joys of raisin' children, so you can start your day with laughter and realize your day wasn't so bad! LOL I know now, mine wasn't bad, I just didn't learn what I needed to quick enough!
